CISAC mourns the loss of Buma Stemra CEO Bernard Kobes

The CISAC community mourns the passing of Bernard Kobes, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Buma Stemra, who passed away on January 20, 2025. A strong supporter of CISAC, Bernard was widely admired for his positivity and dedication to supporting creators and colleagues alike.
As CEO of Buma Stemra, He was a tireless advocate for the rights of creators. He also served on the BIEM Management Committee from 2021 to 2022, distinguishing himself through his constructive approach, team spirit, and unwavering commitment.
Before his tenure at Buma Stemra, Kobes built a career in the media industry, holding senior roles at organisations such as NOB Registratie, DutchView, Technicolor NL, and Ericsson Broadcast Services NL. He also contributed significantly to public broadcasting, serving as interim channel manager at NPO Radio 6 and as director and board member at NLPO. In 2017, he co-founded Media Adviseurs Nederland.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kobe was a talented musician. As a trombone player, he performed with the Ceresband and was recently in the studio with Buma Stemra member Arnold Mühren for a music recording session. Just days before his passing, he was recognized with a royal honor, dedicated to the people working behind the scenes in the television and music industries.
