RIO DE JANEIRO - 2023 was a record-breaking year for collective rights management in Brazil. Led by Concerts, Digital, Radio, Cinema, and General Users segments, the total collection reached approximately 1.63 billion reais (or US$ 320 million at the current exchange rate), a 17% increase compared to 2022 and the highest value ever recorded. This sum includes figures from the seven societies that comprise Brazil's central collection and distribution office -ECAD, by its acronym in Portuguese.
UBC’s contribution was exceptional. The main Brazilian collective management organization (CMO) collected 791 million reais (about US$ 155 million), representing 57% of ECAD's total. UBC’s figures include both author’s rights and neighboring rights.
A fundamental factor for these outstanding results was UBC's record distribution of 104.5 million reais (US$ 20.5 million) from previously unidentified royalties.
